APRIL 12th 3pm – 6.30pm  UK  London  15.00hrs – 18.30hrs

This 3.5 hour-long Live Zoom class includes instruction, demonstration, and question + answer time. It will help you interpret photographs and help you to see what is needed to turn a photo into a painting. Looking at light and composition to develop into something amazing rather than ordinary.

We will look at Drawing the eye to the focal point with simple techniques. We will also cover Composition, Values, Colour Temperatures, Recession, Depth of Field and Movement. We are going to create in underpainting, then pastel, then paint, then pastel, then paint, then pastel to create a masterpiece.

Students will need, for each class:

  • Students will need  1 sheet of WHITE Canson TOUCH Paper. I suggest Half a full sheet.  I will be working on a sheet 320mm x 470mm roughly  Click here for source
  • Water jar, rags,
  • A couple of watercolor brushes, I recommend: Size HALF inch flat, and a fine brush for details etc
  • Printouts of the attached reference material. (sent to registered students)
  • Hairdryer to speed up drying time. A good source of materials from Jacksons Art London Click Here

Inks - You can use watercolour or waterbased Inks that work well especially for darks. I recommend inks for their intensity - Calligraphy inks are great

I use either Daley Rowney Aquafine Inks or Calligraphy Inks. Click here for UK delivery  and Winsor and Newton Calligraphy Inks Click here for UK delivery, although you can source your own brands as long as they are lightfast and water based. Click here for Jacksons Own Brand of Inks, very good.

  • Blue Black.. You can mix black and Blue together to get this or use the Winsor and Newton Blue Black
  • Paynes Grey
  • Aqua
  • Turquoise
  • Bright Blues
  • Phthalo Blue
  • Violet or Magenta
  • Yellow
  • Raw Umber
  • Burnt Sienna

Good selection of Watercolours

You can incorporate Watercolours with the Inks, so a lemon Yellow for instance, there is no need to purchase the Ink if you have a watercolour... The Main Blues for the water i prefer to be Inks for their intensity.

    • A good selection of pastels sticks based on the image
  • Perhaps a few darker pastel pencils for cracks in rocks etc
