This 3.5 hour-long Live Zoom class includes instruction, demonstration, and question + answer time. It will help you interpret photographs and help you to see what is needed to turn a photo into a painting. Looking at light and composition to develop into something amazing rather than ordinary. It will help you use the materials in the best way, re invent, not over work and create surface texture. Positive, clean pastel work, with minimalistic mark making. You learn about Mark making and how important this is. Developing a style, how to avoid flat surfaces.

We will also cover Composition, Values, Colour Temperatures, Recession, Depth of Field and Movement.

Students will need, for each class:

  • Students will need  1 sheet of  Canson Moulin Du Roy Watercolour Paper Click here for Source
Or any Not Watercolour paper. We need something that has a tooth for pastel, but not too rough
  • Printouts of reference material. (sent to registered students)
  • A Hard pastel such as Conte sticks. A white and Black.   Click Here for source

The Inks I use are either Jacksons or Aquafine Inks from Daley Rowney, or Calligraphy Inks from Windsor and Newton. Jacksons in the UK have their own Inks which are very good. Must be Water based Inks, lightfast and permanent. You can choose your own brand.  I sometimes make my own colours with the Aquafine Inks. Add the Bright Blue to Black and I get my Blue Black

You could just use Watercolours

Watercolours

  • Ultramarine
  • Paynes Grey
